Adam Orr is our ArtResin Winner!

Congratulations to artist Adam Orr, our latest ArtResin winner!  Based in Houston, Adam is a mixed media artist who creates 3D layered resin-coated pieces. His work features resin-layered canvases as well as mixed media combinations of wood, paint, glass, and resin.

What's your art background?  Are you self-taught or did you study art?

Self taught.

Are you a full-time artist or do you create around work hours?

Formerly full-time, but have taken a break due to an illness in the family.

What do you love about the mediums that you use in your work?

I love the originality of the 3D Layered Canvas Art, and I love the process involved in the other mixed media art because it evolves as it is being created and the finished product is always a surprise.

How did you discover resin?

It was recommended by a print media vendor. I used another product extensively in the past, but it was lacking in many ways.

How has resin impacted your artwork?

When used on the 3D layered canvas pieces it unleashed a depth and breadth of color that really pops when compared to the raw canvas. It also makes it difficult to tell what the final product is made from.

Can you provide a brief rundown of your process?

I edit photos and print them on canvas, then cut them into hundreds, sometimes thousands of pieces, glue them in layers and coat them in ArtResin.

Why do you want to make art? What motivates you to create?

A desire to see my ideas transformed into tangible pieces of art that can be shared with others.

Does art help you in other areas of your life?

Yes, it has taught me to be patient and enjoy experimenting in order to achieve an objective. The journey can be more rewarding than reaching the destination.

What do you hope someone sees or feels when they look at your art?

I hope it makes them smile. It would also be great if it inspires their own creativity.

How do you define success as an artist? What does that look and feel like for you?

Success in art for me is simply processing emotion into a tangible object. It is a huge plus if others enjoy it and an even bigger plus if it puts money in my pocket, but the process itself is enough even if no one else ever sees it.

What's your favorite resin tip you'd like to share with our readers?

Use an ArtResin plastic stir stick, wipe it completely immediately after use, and don't whip the resin into a froth.

Where do you sell your work?

Primarily to a major hotel/restaurant chain.

Congratulations on your win, Adam!
