Jackie Besteman is an artist based in Toronto, Ontario who captures the wonderful world of birds in her bright, resin-coated acrylic paintings.
After a long career as an editorial illustrator, Jackie decided to combine her love of painting with her passion for birds. Rather than taking a traditional approach to wildlife painting, Jackie injects a sense of fun into her work, exploring the bird kingdom with colour, pop culture and kitsch.
To Jackie, birds are the perfect subject matter and she has great fun in pairing them with the perfect objects: whether it's Barbie or James Bond, a jewel or a vintage telephone, Jackie's hope is to draw attention to the mystery and unique beauty of birds and to the enormous value they provide to the world's ecosystem.
