Congratulations to artist Jayda Koludrovic, our latest ArtResin Winner! Based in Melbourne, Australia, Jayda is a mixed media abstract artist and painter:
"My work is primarily abstract, deeply inspired by nature. I’m drawn to the organic forms, textures, and patterns found in nature—especially those unique to the Australian landscape. Through layered techniques and flowing compositions, I try to echo those elements in my artworks."

Does where you're from or where you currently live influence your work?
Absolutely. Living on the outskirts of Melbourne gives me daily access to beautiful natural surroundings. However, I grew up in the countryside, and that’s where my heart truly lies. The native flora of Australia has had a lasting impact on my creativity—I even keep photo folders filled with images of gum tree bark, which continually inspires the forms in my art.
What's your art background? Are you self-taught or did you study art?
My passion for art has been there since childhood, and I was fortunate to have parents who supported and nurtured that creativity early on. While I’m largely self-taught, I also hold a Bachelor of Design, which has deeply influenced the way I approach my work. That formal training helped shape my understanding of composition, balance, and visual storytelling, all of which play a big role in how I create today.
Are you a full-time artist or do you create around work hours?
Yes, I’m incredibly fortunate to work full-time as an artist—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What do you love about the mediums that you use in your work?
The mediums I work with are both challenging and incredibly rewarding. I’m drawn to their unpredictability and the organic, one-of-a-kind effects I can achieve—things that would be impossible with just a brush.
How did you discover resin?
It all started with a commission. A client sent me an image of a resin piece as inspiration. I remember thinking, “I can’t paint this—it’s resin! But I’ll give it a try.” That was the beginning of what’s now a daily part of my practice.
How has resin impacted your artwork?
It’s completely transformed how I work. Resin has expanded my creative toolbox, giving me the freedom to push into new textures, concepts, and finishes I couldn’t achieve with other materials.

Can you provide a brief rundown of your process?
I often create a digital mockup beforehand—it gives me a loose guide to follow, even though resin tends to have a mind of its own. That balance between planning and letting the medium take over is part of what makes it so exciting.
Why do you want to make art? What motivates you to create?
Honestly, I think it’s just how my brain is wired—I’m always thinking of new ideas, especially when I’m trying to sleep! I’m constantly driven to grow and evolve, to keep pushing myself to make better, more expressive art. Art is an extension of me.
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Absolutely. It’s my escape— for both good times and the bad.

What do you hope someone sees or feels when they look at your art?
I believe art is experienced differently by everyone, and that’s part of what makes it so special.
My hope is that viewers feel drawn in, discovering new layers or details each time they engage with a piece. I want my work to invite reflection, spark emotion, and leave space for personal interpretation.
How do you define success as an artist? What does that look and feel like for you?
Art is so personal that success can’t really be measured by others. For me, it’s about creating work that feels true to my vision—whatever that vision is at the time. That’s when I feel most fulfilled.
What's your favorite resin tip you'd like to share with our readers?
One of my go-to tricks is taping the back of the artwork before a pour—it makes removing the excess resin much easier once everything has cured. A heat gun works wonders for lifting it cleanly, leaving a crisp edge.
