Congratulations to artist Jarod Farver, our latest Instagram Winner! Based in Gilbert, AZ, Jarod is a full-time, contemporary artist who creates colorful abstract, linear paintings by layering epoxy and acrylic:
"I love mixing color with epoxy resin to create transparent and translucent layers."
Does where you’re from or where you currently live influence your work?
Yes, nothing beats an Arizona sunset.
What's your art background? Are you self taught or did you study art?
Self taught. I've been painting for galleries for 12 years now.
What do you love about the mediums that you use?
Acrylic is great for mixing and drying fast so I can keep on creating. I love mixing color with epoxy resin so create transparent and translucent layers of color.
When did you discover resin?
I finally started experimenting with resin in 2019 when I had the idea for what I am creating today.
How has resin impacted your artwork?
Resin does so much from start to finish for my art. The colors pop and show their true colors when you finally pour the top coat.
Can you provide a brief rundown of your process?
My process starts out building all my wood panels one at a time. Then getting gesso, paint, and spray paint on in a very messy way. Then i start mapping out the lines and structure of the painting with tape. Next is layer and layers on paint and epoxy until I feel it's complete.
Why do you want to make art? What motivates you to create?
I've been painting for a long time and it's always been fulfilling. My creative side has to come out and tell a story. Selling artwork in galleries is a huge blessing and motivates me to create full time. When my art resonates with someone it's a great feeling.
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Yes, I find art in landscaping the yard, renovating our kitchen, cooking, and playing with my 2 year old son.
What do you hope someone sees or feels when they look at your art?
There's a lot going on in my painting, I want you to see the depth and contrast of the art. I want it to be an uplifting and positive experience and I want you to feel however it makes you feel. I hope it motivates you to create in some aspect of your life.
How do you define success as an artist? What does success look and feel like for you?
Success to me is creating and sending it out into the world to see. Making a living out of it is the greatest feeling.
Where do you sell your work?
I sell my work at SD Art Advisory in San Diego, CA and Art Studio 101 in Phoenix, Arizona (a couple more galleries in the works) :)
