Erica Menna is our ArtResin Winner!

Congratulations to artist Erica Menna, our latest ArtResin winner!  Based in Toronto, Ontario, Erica is a sculptural and mixed media artist:  "I create contemporary 3D sculptural wall art that blends texture, movement, and depth. My work often explores organic forms and layered surfaces, transforming flat walls into dimensional experiences. Each piece is designed to feel both architectural and emotional — structured yet expressive."

Does where you're from or where you currently live influence your work?

I’m mostly inspired by beaches and mountains-the texture, the layers, and the natural movement. I’m constantly finding inspiration in nature and there’s always something organic that finds its way into my work.

What's your art background?

I’m a self–taught artist and have been creating since adolescence.

Are you a full-time artist or do you create around work hours?

I am currently pursuing my art full time.

What do you love about the mediums that you use in your work?

I’m drawn to joint compound because of its versatility. It allows me to build depth, transforming a flat surface into something dynamic and alive. I’m also drawn to resin for its luminosity. It interacts beautifully with light and adds a refined dimensional finish that elevates the entire piece.

How did you discover resin? How has it impacted your artwork?

I first saw and heard about resin online and had been wanting to explore it for some time. Resin has significantly impacted my work by enhancing depth, light interaction and overall dimension. It elevates the texture beneath it and brings a refined, luminous finish to my sculptures.

Can you provide a brief rundown of your process?

My process begins with building structure and form directly onto the surface, focusing on composition and movement. From there, I layer and sculpt to create depth and volume, allowing the piece to evolve organically. Once the form is established, refinement becomes key, which includes sanding and painting and often resin to enhance dimension and light interaction. It’s a hands-on, layered process that transforms a simple base into a sculptural, architectural piece.

Why do you want to make art?  What motivates you to create?

I create because it's how I process, explore, and express myself. Art has always been a constant in my life and over the years has become less of a hobby and more of a calling.

Does art help you in other areas of your life?

Art has been a way for me to process things I can’t always put into words, especially in pieces that feel fragmented and layered. There is so much life reflected in that.

What do you hope someone sees or feels when they look at your art?

I hope they feel something even if they can’t quite explain it. A sense of calm. A pause. A moment to breathe. If someone stands infront of my work and feels seen or understood, even quietly, that means everything to me.

How do you define success as an artist?  What does that look and feel like for you?

I define success as growth. If I’m evolving and constantly challenging myself, that’s success. It’s about staying aligned with my vision while building something sustainable.

What's your favorite resin tip you'd like to share with our readers?

One of my favourite resin tips is lightly misting the air with water before you pour. This helps trap floating dust particles, so they don't settle into your finish.

Where do you sell your work?

Mostly through my website www.ericamenna.com
