Does where you're from or where you currently live influence your work?
I live in a very small village surrounded by countryside which makes me feel very connected with nature.
What's your art background?
I am a self-taught artist. I studied art up to A-level, but had to stop to pursue my career as a doctor.
Are you a full-time artist or do you create around work hours?
I am a "full-time" artist, but realistically only paint during school hours as I have a 6 year-old. I quit working as a doctor just over 2 years ago now.
What do you love about the mediums that you use in your work?
I love the vibrancy and speed with which you can work with acrylics and resin just helps to make these colours pop even more.
How did you discover resin?
I was inspired by the artist Rozanne Bell, when I spotted her colourful resin work 15 years ago.
How has resin impacted your artwork?
It helps to create more depth with layers, which allows me to explore lots of different types of mark making. It also really brings more vibrancy and depth in the colours I use.
Can you provide a brief rundown of your process?
I work in lots of different ways. Often with resin I will do a base coat in acrylic to get my background, then do a coat of resin. More recently I have then painted on top of the resin for the subject and then finish with another coat of resin to protect it and deepen those colours.
Why do you want to make art? What motivates you to create?
Planning and inspiration challenges my mind. The process of painting brings me peace and the result brings me satisfaction. Seeing people's reactions brings me joy! I love every part of being an artist.
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
I enjoy the solace of painting, but the interaction of selling and marketing. Art brings me more balance in my life.
What do you hope someone sees or feels when they look at your art?
Joy and happiness and a sense of peace brought by the beauty of the work.
How do you define success as an artist? What does that look and feel like for you?
Creating work I am proud and that brings me fulfillment.
What's your favorite resin tip you'd like to share with our readers?
Preparation is key, as well as ramekins to elevate your work on.
Where do you sell your work?
Mainly through Instagram, but also at my local hospital, pub, fairs and exhibitions.
