ArtResin vs Industrial Clear Epoxy: What Are The Differences?

You may already be familiar with ArtResin, the original epoxy resin product that pioneered the resin art world.  Backed by high quality ingredients, third-party tested safety standards, unprecedented customer support, how-to videos and blogs, ArtResin has earned its reputation as the go-to brand you can trust. Recently, however, we noticed a growing demand for an epoxy resin that can be used for projects beyond coating pieces of art. And so, we got to work.

We're proud to announce the launch of our newest product: Industrial Clear.

Industrial Clear is an easy to use, 2:1 epoxy resin, engineered to cure with a rock hard finish. It was intentionally formulated as a coating for table tops, counter tops, bar tops, live edge wood slabs, boats, concrete floors and other applications that need to withstand the wear and tear of everyday use.

In this blog post, we'll share how Industrial Clear differs from ArtResin and highlight its main benefits.

But first, let's meet Industrial Clear:

Industrial Clear vs ArtResin: What are the differences?

To help you find the best option for your project, let's compare ArtResin with Industrial Clear.

1. Main Applications

ArtResin and Industrial Clear are both epoxy resins, each uniquely suited for specific applications.  ArtResin was designed as a high-gloss coating for artwork, prioritizing a crystal clear formula to enhance color and UV stabilization for longterm protection. Over the years, however, artists across the world have found innovative ways to use ArtResin for crafting art such as geodes, ocean scenes, fluid art, tumblers, jewelry, keychains and other decorative items.

Industrial Clear was made with strength and durability in mind for projects such as tables, bars, counters and floors. Its rock-hard finish ensures exceptional resistance to scratches, moisture and chemicals. It also offers excellent heat resistance, capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 350°F or 176°C.  As a result, Industrial Clear can be used for resin art projects, such as coasters, that demand both strength and heat resistance.

2. Mixing Ratio

One of the main differences between ArtResin and Industrial Clear is the mixing ratio.  With ArtResin, the resin and hardener come in equal-size bottles, and the formula calls for an equal volume of each. ArtResin has a high viscosity, with a honey-like consistency that's easy to spread, and provides exceptional control for techniques like doming.

On the other hand, you'll notice right away that Industrial Clear's resin bottle is larger, twice the size of the hardener. The formula has a 2:1 ratio, where 2 parts of resin are to be mixed with 1 part of hardener, by volume. You may notice Industrial Clear's medium viscosity gives it a slightly more fluid consistency.

3. Cure Time:

Both ArtResin and Industrial Clear are dry to the touch at the 24 hour mark. However, the full cure time differs: Industrial Clear is fully cured after 48 hours while ArtResin requires 72 hours. It's essential that the product is allowed to completely cure so it can reach its maximum hardness.

In other aspects, both ArtResin and Industrial Clear have a similar recommended pour thickness, pot life, required curing temperature and are both machinable once cured. Our no-compromise commitment to safety means that both products are non-toxic, food-safe, low odor, contain no solvents, and release no fumes or VOCs. When used as directed and with gloves, both Industrial Clear and ArtResin can be used in a well-ventilated space.

The Main Benefits Of Industrial Clear:

1. A Rock Hard Finish

Industrial Clear is the perfect choice for applications demanding high strength and durability. Its high adhesion formula bonds well to most materials and a Shore D rating of 83 means it can resist common scratches and damage in high-traffic areas. Industrial Clear's hard cure ensures that it can withstand heavy loads, without cracking or breaking under stress.
