Based in Quebec, Canada, Stéphanie is a mixed media abstract painter: "I’m interested in memory in all its forms and expressions. Memory tends to keep the best and forget the rest. Based on this concept, I like to mix the 5 senses linked to a memory, a place or an emotion, and interpret them through the choice of colors, transparency and the interlacing of pigments offered by resin. Whether it's an abstract memory, a blurred imprint, a dream or emotional fragments from the past that emerge, I make them tangible, real and alive. In other words, I color the invisible."
What's your art background? Are you self taught or did you study art?
I studied visual arts in college and have a bachelor's degree in graphic design. My artistic technique, however, was developed by myself - mostly through trial and error and hundreds of tutorials.
Quel est votre parcours artistique ? Avez-vous étudié en art?
J’ai étudié en arts visuels au collège et j’ai un baccalauréat en design graphique. Ma technique artistique a par contre été développée par moi-même - principalement constituée d’essais et erreurs et des centaines de tutoriels.
Are you a full time artist or do you create around work hours?
I’m an artist-entrepreneur - which means I'm constantly developing or creating, but I also split my time as a freelance graphic designer.
Êtes-vous un artiste à temps plein ou créez-vous votre art à travers vos heures de travail?
Je suis une artiste-entrepreneur - ce qui veut dire que je suis constamment en développement ou en création, mais je partage aussi mon temps en tant que designer graphique pigiste.
What do you love about the mediums that you use?
In developing my own technique, I had to try out several mediums to find the perfect recipe. By playing with the weight of each color and medium, the blending of these colors is a spectacle for the eyes. I'm never tired of it.
Qu’aimez-vous dans les médiums que vous utilisez ?
En développant ma propre technique, j’ai dû essayer plusieurs médiums pour trouver la recette parfaite. En jouant avec le poids de chacune des couleurs et des médiums, le mélange des ces couleurs est un spectacle pour les yeux à regarder à chaque fois. Je ne me lasse jamais.

How has resin impacted your artwork?
Resin creates an atmosphere that no other medium can reproduce. It also means we have to dive into the moment and not ask ourselves too many questions, as we have a limited amount of time before it cures.
Comment la résine a-t-elle influencé votre œuvre?
La résine offre une atmosphère qu’aucun autre médium ne peut reproduire. Elle nous force aussi à plonger dans le moment présent et ne pas se poser trop de questions, puisque nous avons un temps limité avant qu’elle ne cuise.
Can you describe your process?
I start with a first layer of acrylic to create my atmosphere. Then I apply one or 2 coats of resin with liquid acrylic or other products. Once completely dry, I add details with acrylic to create a beautiful dimension.
Pouvez-vous décrire votre processus?
Je fais d’abord une première couche d’acrylique pour créer mon univers. Ensuite, je fais une ou 2 couches de résine avec de l’acrylique liquide ou autres produits. Une fois le tout complètement sec, j’ajoute des détails à l’acrylique pour créer une belle dimension.
Why do you want to make art? What motivates you to create?
I started creating during the pandemic. Being a new mom and isolated from the outside world, I felt the need to express myself (and have some time to myself!) and feel like I had some control over my life!
Pourquoi voulez-vous faire de l’art ? Qu’est-ce qui vous motive à créer?
J’ai commencé à créer lors de la pandémie. Étant nouvellement maman et isolée du monde extérieur, j’ai ressenti le besoin de m’exprimer (et d’avoir du temps seule pour moi!) et d’ainsi avoir l’impression d’avoir un peu de contrôle dans ma vie!
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Art brings me a lot of happiness when I create and it reduces my anxiety, as I focus on the present moment.
L’art vous aide-t-il dans d’autres domaines de votre vie?
L’art m’apporte beaucoup de bonheur en créant et elle réduit mon anxiété, puisque je me concentre sur le moment présent.
What do you hope someone sees or feels when they look at your art?
I hope that people will find a place, an emotion or a memory that is unique to them.

J’espère que les gens y trouveront un lieu, une émotion ou un souvenir qui leur est propre.
How do you define success as an artist? What does success look and feel like for you?
For me, success is when we push our own limits - no matter what the result. It's about always striving to improve, to move forward and to believe in yourself.
Comment définissez-vous le succès en tant qu’artiste ? À quoi ressemble le succès pour vous?
Le succès pour moi, c’est lorsqu’on repousse nos propres limites - peu importe le résultat. C’est de toujours tenter à s’améliorer, à avancer et à croire en soi.
