Congratulations to artist Renee Martinuk, our latest Instagram Winner! Renee is a resin artist based in Kamloops, BC, Canada. Renee incorporates natural elements into her pieces including crystals, gems, and flowers to create functional art and décor: "I create a variety of types of art, from coasters to cutting boards, to trays and trinket dishes, to hair clips and bookmarks. Little bit of everything."
Does where you’re from or where you currently live influence your work?
Absolutely, my geographic location totally inspires my art work! From our sunsets, to our mountains and forests, to the plethora of vegetation that resides here!
What’s your art background?
I am self taught! Been doing resin art for about 5 years now.
Are you a full time artist?
I create work in my personal time.
What do you love about the mediums that you use?
I love that resin is hard to be controlled! I love that is has a mind of its own and I am constantly learning new techniques, sometimes on purpose, sometimes by happy accident.
When did you discover resin? How has it impacted your artwork?
I discovered resin about 8 years ago. Resin is my true passion when it comes to art. It is my favorite medium.
Can you provide a brief rundown of your process?
I typically go into every session with an inspiration of what I would like to create. These days its foraging fresh flowers, pressing or preserving them and then adding them to the resin. I like to use silicone molds, and I have had great success doing multiple pours when working with flowers!
Why do you want to make art? What motivates you to create?
I like to make so I can capture and share all things beautiful! I love preserving things! Especially flowers from special occasions like weddings!
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
Art has been a very helpful tool for me throughout my life. I have had a lot of transitions and art has been a constant. My art is a reflection of my state of mind! You will see this trend a lot!
What do you hope someone sees or feels when they look at your art?
I hope that my art brings joy to people. I hope when they see it they see the beauty and it makes them smile!
How do you define success as an artist? What does success look and feel like for you?
I define success as an artist by being able to move my product so I can continue to create more! I define success as in making custom art, one-of-a-kind art, that is completely unique and not ever a duplication of someone else’s vision.
Where do you sell your work?
I sell my work at a vartiety of local Shops including : Soul Stones, Lyons Garden and Landscape Centre, Volegacy and Hidden Gems giftshop!
