First - we're featuring the incredible contemporary artist Annie Labbé!
Second - this is our first Featured Artist interview in French!
(with English subtitles.)
Annie Labbé is an abstract artist based in Quebec City, Quebec. An introduction to photography as a teenager opened the door for Annie into the art world, where she soon discovered her love of painting. Inspired by Quebec's mighty St. Lawrence River, Annie started with a series of landscape abstracts before transitioning into the colourful, geometric paintings she is so well known for.
Annie maintains that art is a series of choices - what to keep and what to erase, what tools to use and how - and these individual decisions collectively create the whole work. In Annie's art, she draws on her passion for architecture, geometric lines and colour: the choices made around these equally important components create worlds in her paintings that invite the viewer to explore. Colour placement is just as important as line placement: harmonious, happy colour palettes keep the mood light and playful, while a 3-D effect further pulls the viewer in, engaging both their eyes and mind as they travel streets, climb stairs and navigate their way through her painting.

ArtResin's Jeff and Pat recently spent dropped by Annie's studio in Lévis, Quebec, to film her painting and to chat about her artistic goals, how she continuously feeds her creativity, and because she works alone, the importance of surrounding herself with the support of an artistic community.
Enjoy :)
